With a degree in experimental psychology from Wheaton College in Norton, Massachusetts, Wendy began her career with Drucker & Falk, LLC in 1981 in the Raleigh office. Her focus has been on multifamily management, the supervision of new construction and rent-up, older apartment community renovations, and new business development. Upon moving to the Newport News Corporation Headquarters in 1994, Wendy assumed the responsibility of Assistant General Manager of the firm focusing on expanding the management profile. In 1997, she was promoted to Executive Vice President and became a Member of the firm.
Wendy is active in the community with an emphasis on education (founding task force member for the Hampton Roads Country Day School) and those in need (the Lost Boys of the Sudan).

President, Sentara Health Care
David L. Bernd is chief executive officer of Sentara Healthcare, an integrated health system with net revenues of $2.5 billion. Sentara, a not-for-profit health care provider in southeastern Virginia and northeastern North Carolina, is comprised of 7 acute care hospitals, health plans with 350,000 covered lives, and 350 physician multi-specialty medical group. Sentara was ranked the number one integrated health care network in the United States in 2001 by Modern Healthcare magazine and is the only health care system to be named in the top 10 for the past ten years.
Most recently, Mr. Bernd, was named by the Secretary of Commerce to serve as a member of the Measuring Innovation in the 21st Century Economy Advisory Committee of the Department of Commerce. In 2004 he served as chairman of the American Hospital Association Board of Trustees, the top elected official of the largest hospital and health system association in the United States. In addition, he is a fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives. Mr. Bernd was the 1984 recipient of the American College of Hospital Administrators' Robert S. Hudgens National Young Hospital Administrator of the Year Award.
Mr. Bernd has been a passionate advocate for quality and patient safety improvement. Sentara Healthcare under Mr. Bernd’s leadership has become nationally recognized in the industry as innovators. In 2000, Sentara became the first in the nation to use an electronic ICU monitoring system which decreased ICU mortality rates, lengths of stay and costs, and increased nurse retention rates. Sentara’s work in changing the culture to achieve strides in patient safety and quality were recognized by the AHA Quest for Quality prize in 2004 and the 2005 John M. Eisenberg Patient Safety and Quality award from the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) and the National Quality Forum.
Mr. Bernd has devoted significant time to mentoring the next generation of healthcare executives lecturing at Stanford University, William and Mary and Virginia Commonwealth University. As frequent presenter for healthcare associations and national conferences, Mr. Bernd has focused on the strategic value of quality, patient safety and efficient delivery of care. Mr. Bernd has shared his knowledge and experiences with numerous hospital leadership teams, governing bodies and physician organizations.
Mr. Bernd received his Master of Hospital and Health Administration from the Medical College of Virginia in 1973. He resides with his family in Virginia Beach, Virginia
